Tim Barber’s Untitled Photographs: OHWOW is pleased to announce the publication of Tim Barber’s Untitled Photographs. In Untitled Photographs, Barber presents a collection of images spanning his fifteen years behind the lens. From portraits to landscapes to narrative scenes, Barber approaches all of his subject matter with a palpable delicacy. Expanding on amateur aesthetics, these images can feel as much like spontaneous documentation of the artist’s adventures as careful compositions. The line between autobiography and fiction is as ethereal as the overall tone of the work. In the case of Barber’s photography, ambiguity is seductive and the lure of fantasy eclipses the security of literality.

In his series Slaughterhouse, Robin Friend slowly exposes the intensely coloured minerals of an abandoned Welsh mine. Even as it returns to an atavistic state, the people who carved out their livelihoods and the alien topography are still a palpable presence for the photographer. Just released is ARAF, a film made by Andrew Telling and Owen Richards who followed Friend into the Victorian mines, reverently capturing the light and the quiet atmosphere and the distinctive process Friend used to create these extraordinary images.

I don't work in themes. This doesn't represent a time period or a body of work, it's just an edit of images that span my entire life of being a photographer. I always think I'm making puzzle pieces when I'm taking pictures and then trying to assemble some bigger picture out of those—even though there isn't one necessarily. There's infinite ways I could put it together.

Simmons' landscape photographs (which subscribers will remember from our February 2008 Monograph booklet) appear in various locations thorughout the city, including on an old water tower and on billboards. By infiltrating images of natural beauty into spaces normally used for advertising or into unlikely urban settings, Simmons hopes that viewers will be taken by surprise and may be prompted to think about the relationship between the natural and urban environments.

If only all garments could settle their differences over a game of ping-pong, the world would be a better place. There's not much between these two titans of the fashion world. The two shorts place 'the blouse' and 'the lucky shirt' as their subject - making the clothes as the subject.

Directed and Photographed by Leila and Damien de Blinkk, the films and prints will be staggered, with a constantly evolving message, throughout the season digitally, in cinema, on TV, in print, outdoor and in store windows. Celebrating the power of clothes, each film is stylishly told from the point of view of a hero garment. This is the first in the shape of a teaser 60” trailer and will be followed by a succession of films throughout August and September.

Another asked Tom to capture Repetto's classic Ballet shoes to celebrate the launch of a new, personalised, in store service. Available in Selfridges, the service offers a selection of 250 different shades of lambskin, to match or contrast with a hand-picked lace and trim.

To celebrate, AnOther designed their own pair of Repettos and commissioned photographer Thomas Brown to create a dancing diagram. Follow the blue shoe to “jump frenetically,” Brown says. “Glide elegantly in the pink shoes, or perhaps follow each step to your own beat.”

Urban Land Project sees Simmons continuing to challenge and alter the viewer's perception. Using billboards and outdoor murals—media most commonly reserved for advertising—he will infiltrate various public spaces throughout Philadelphia and Los Angeles. With each city and site affording a unique experience to his work, this project is intended to stimulate awareness through its framed representations of the natural world within the wider urban context. In Philadelphia, Mural Arts is proud to lend their expertise in public art and community engagement to this exciting new project.
Globalization, industrialization and technological progress are the sculptors of the modern landscape. Directed and Photographed by Leila and Damien de Blinkk, the films and prints will be staggered, with a constantly evolving message, throughout the season digitally, in cinema, on TV, in print, outdoor and in store windows. Celebrating the power of clothes, each film is stylishly told from the point of view of a hero garment. This is the first in the shape of a teaser 60” trailer and will be followed by a succession of films throughout August and September.

On Sunday the culmination of a fantastic project Greg was commissioned to shoot for Audi was released as a Times newspaper supplement.
The story takes an in-depth view of Audi Motorsport team examining how the they work and exploring some of the often overlooked aspects of the science that is high performance racing.

Greg visited Goodwood in the UK, Le Mans in France and exclusive access the Audi manufacturing center at Ingolstadt in Germany for the project which also features portraits of driver Alan McNish and race engineer Leena Gade.

Over a million copies were printed and distributed across the world as a Sunday Times Supplement.

Tim received a fantastic review from Alice Byrne of fashion, music and lifestyle website Bloginity for his recent Wildflower story.

This incredible shoot of Australian model Bambi Northwood (Ford Models) was photographed by Tim Barber for the latest issue of Muse Magazine, titled Wildflower. Not just a regular editorial, this shoot occupies nearly 15% of the entire issue, and is spread across 40 pages! Shot up and down the coast of California, Bambi is dressed by stylist Susan Winget, in pieces including Acne, Dolce and Gabbana, Kiteya, Thakoon and Christian Louboutin.

Tim Barber’s photography really looks fantastic here. Every shot is expertly lit, the colors are fantastic and the composition is really interesting. I love how each shot is framed, and I feel the variation between photographs works really well.

Tara Darby | The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter

Tara's Literary Journey series recounts her travels through towns and cities used as settings in great books of American 20th century literature.
The second journey takes her to the Deep South to follow the plot and locations of Carson McCullers' 1940 novel The Night is a Lonely Hunter. The story centres on the experiences of a deaf man, John Singer, and the people he meets in a 1930s mill town and was the first in a string of works by McCullers to give voice to the rejected, forgotten, mistreated and oppressed.
Tara's beautiful images are accompanied by her own texts which connect the experiences she has on her road trip with the text of the novel.

Tara talked to Mono about her new show ‘Literary Journey’ at Transition gallery in London.

Mono. So this is the 2nd part of your ‘Literary Journey’?
Tara Darby: Yes, the 1st one, which I shot in Kansas was based on the Truman Capote story 'In Cold Blood' & was serialised on the Another website.
M. How was that?
TD: It was incredible, it all kind of happened really quickly. I read the novel ‘In Cold Blood’ & just got really obsessed with the story. When I got to the end of the book I realised it was going to be the 50th anniversary of the murders in about 2 weeks time. I’d got really consumed by the whole story, the way Capote writes, he really draws you in & his characters are so visceral, he has this way of bringing them back to life.
So I just arranged it all really quickly, I was trying to think of someone I could go with & I saw a Facebook status update of my friend who lives in Texas. He was talking about how nothing beats driving through the desert listening to Stars of the Lid & I thought, of course, John Mark (Lapham), he would be the perfect person to go with. JM is a musician, so initially I thought he could come & write and record some sounds & I would concentrate on the photographs.
